Transplant - Dialysis Tips

Today I got my letter accepting me into the transplant program at a local hospital.  I’m not a stranger to transplant.  8 years ago, I had a liver transplant.  The anti-rejection medicine I was taking for my transplant caused the decline in my kidneys.

It’s scary to think about taking an organ out of your body and putting another one in.  You kind of feel like Frankenstein.  But what is scarier than thinking about the transplant itself is thinking about if you will actually get one.

Yesterday I saw a gut punching post from Donate Life about the statistics for women waiting on a kidney transplant.  I’m not even on the list yet….I still need to do all the testing, a mental and financial review, and then I get put in line.  If you can find a living donor, you can get the transplant faster.  Even if the donor is not a match for you, there is a “swap” that can be done with someone else that has a donor.  It’s a complicated and daunting process.  At least this time I know what to expect when it comes time to start the process.
