I've just completed the 3rd surgery on the fistula in my arm. This time it needed a patch to strength the blood flow throughout the arm. I am completely disgusted on how it looks while healing! The first few days I felt people staring at it. It looked like I had an appendage sewn onto my arm or a worm crawling under my skin.
I got to the point where I just couldn't look at it anymore. Plus, the glue that was on it was sticking together each time I bent my arm.
We first tried covering it with a large bandage. That lasted for a few hours. Each bend of the arm would pull the bandage away from the skin and it eventually stopped sticking.
Then I remembered seeing an ad for gardening sleeves. Why not try those??? It would cover up the gross incision and keep it from sticking.
I found a large pack of cheap, yet stylish, gardening sleeves and they are the best purchase I have made! AND, I also found tattoo sleeves for when I'm feeling like a rebel. They are amazing! They will also come in handy to cover up the access scars when they start dialysis in my arm.
I bought Jeyiour's 18 Pair Gardening Arm Sleeves off Amazon for $21 and Hoveox's 12 Pcs Temporary Tattoo Sleeves for $10. Both come in different patterns and colors.
It doesn't bother me anymore - out of sight, out of mind. But, I still hope it will look less appalling when it heals.
